Strawberry Apricot Compote (Kompot) Recipe-Russian Drink

Compote (Kompot) as a drink originated in Eastern Europe in 1300s. In Western Europe Compote is a desert made with whole fruit and syrup. In Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova Compote is a drink made of water, fruit and sugar. It is sometimes spiced up with Cinnamon, Nutmeg and other spices. Compote (Kompot) is a light refreshing drink made by boiling fresh fruit with sugar, then leaving it to cool and infuse and unlike juice, the original fruit or berry in Russian Compote (Kompot) is preserved in the juice.

 

It is extremely easy to make at home and you can create unique versions with special fruits to taste.  Compote (Kompot) is a wonderful soft drink all year round – refreshingly cool in summer or invitingly hot in mid-winter.

Here is a recipe for you to try at home:
 
Direction:
Cut fruit into small pieces.  Bring water to boil in a large pot. Add fruits to water and let simmer for 5 minutes. Add sugar  and lemon juice mix well and simmer for another 5 minutes. You can adjust the sweetness.  Serve cold or hot.

  • 1 lb. strawberries
  • 6-7 apricots
  • 1 Gallon water
  • 8 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice

Instructions

  3. Add sugar and lemon juice mix well and simmer for another 5 minutes.

    I made kompot with apricots few days ago. And it’s taste really good with apricots and strawberries:-) I always have kompot in my fridge. My husband can’t live with out it:)))

    This is like a Blast from the Past!. Reminds me of my childhood when my Baba use to whip this up for us. Some of my friends from school thought it was a real tasty treat, most of them never heard of Kompot. Thanks for sharing your recipe…will try this for sure.
