Kompot (Compot) is a Russian drink made of water, fruit and sugar. In winter time it gets spiced up with Cinnamon, Nutmeg and other spices. It is really easy to make at home and you can create unique versions with special fruits to taste. Here is my winter version of Kompot recipe for you to try at home. A combination of apples, pear and cinnamon makes tasty comforting homemade winter beverage. Serve with additional cinnamon sticks for stirring, if desired.
Compote (Kompot) as a drink originated in Eastern Europe in 1300s. In Western Europe Compote is a desert made with whole fruit and syrup. In Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova Compote is a drink made of water, fruit and sugar. It is sometimes spiced up with Cinnamon, Nutmeg and other spices. Compote (Kompot) is a light refreshing drink made by boiling fresh fruit with sugar, then leaving it to cool and infuse and unlike juice, the original fruit or berry in Russian Compote (Kompot) is preserved in the juice.
This is a very refreshing summer drink for those hot summer days. It perfectly combines the sweet and tart with a touch of refreshing mint and fresh berries to make this an addicting drink.
